The Duke and Duchess of Sussex

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, also known as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, on Thursday shared the first photo of their daughter Lilibit Diana Mountbatten-Windsor in a family photo that appeared on the official Christmas card.

The photo shows a family of four laughing while Megan holds her daughter in her arms. Six-month-old Lillipet, nicknamed “Lily,” is Sussex’s second child. Their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, was born on May 6, 2019. As the Christmas card photo shows, Archie inherited his father’s signature red hair.

“This year, 2021, we welcomed our daughter, Lillipet, into the world. Archie made us ‘mama’ and ‘Papa’, and Lily made us family,” Harry and Meghan said on their card.

“As we look to 2022, we have made donations on your behalf to many organizations that honor and protect families – from those relocated from Afghanistan, to American families in need of paid parental leave.”

According to the card and a statement from Harry and Meghan’s charity Archewell, the couple made contributions to: Team Rubicon; welcome. First Human Alliance; The crew of mankind is paid leave for all; PL + US; The Marshall Plan for Mothers.

The Sussexes signed the card “Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, from our family to yours! As always, Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lily.”

2020 Christmas card for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

This year’s photo differs from the 2020 family holiday card, which was a stylized image of Harry, Meghan and Archie with the family’s rescue dogs, Jay, Beagle and Paula, the Black Lab.

A Sussex spokesperson told People at the time: ‘The original photo of the family was taken at their home earlier this month by the Duchess’ mother. The tree will be replanted after the holidays.”

Harry and Meghan have carefully guarded their children’s privacy since moving to the US in March 2020. They have successfully sued a paparazzi agency to take drone photos of their son, Archie, at their first California home, winning a settlement and an apology from X17 The company that took the photos and made them for sale.

In the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, Meghan spoke about how dreaded she was to pose for pictures with Archie in front of the world press shortly after his birth, the way her sister-in-law did to all of her three pregnancies.

“I was so afraid of having to introduce our baby,” she said. The Sussex family was waiting until two days after Archie was born to pose for the cameras with their son.

Harry and Meghan are no longer working members of the royal family, they were able to keep their daughter away from the media for the first six months of her life.

Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on the 4th of June at Santa Barbara Rural Hospital in California and weighs 7 pounds 11 ounces. She was named after her maternal grandmother, the Queen, and her paternal grandmother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

On June 6, Harry and Meghan released a personal statement alongside the news of the birth of their child.

“On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter Lily,” they said. “It’s more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we have felt from all over the world. Thank you for your kindness and continued support during this very special time for our family.”
