Hawkeye Nearly Turned One of South Park’s Sickest Jokes Into a Trick Arrow

Hawkeye manager Rhys Thomas revealed that he made a name for one hoax arrow that was actually a reference to South Park, although the joke was ultimately not used.

Disney+’s Hawkeye explained that Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) has a bunch of cool trick darts capable of getting him out of any number of jams. However, not a single hoax arrow appeared on the show – and he referred to the “brown note” joke of South Park.

In an interview with Collider, hook Director Rhys Thomas was asked about any stock label trick fans couldn’t see when Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and Clint were making some new, with a special focus on a potential throwback. Thomas noted that production began making a boomerang and even made “a kind of amusing arrow that has a bunch of bouncing balls.” However, Boomerang’s appearance was canceled to avoid a callback that would hurt the show’s momentum.

Then Thomas put forward his reference to South Park, revealing, “There was one sticker…there were a lot of stickers we played with and one that I childhood tried to slip in, we cut it cleverly. I had a sticker called the brown note, for whatever South Park fans, but I thought the editorial was better to rub it in.”
