Jamie Spears files to have Britney continue to pay his legal fees

Jimmy Spears never finished telling Britney, “Give me more.”

The estranged pop star’s father filed documents in court last week to continue his daughter’s estate to pay his legal fees, despite her suspension from guardianship in September, Variety reports.

Spears sought “confirmation, authorization, and direction” from the court to compel the estate to release attorneys “involved in proceedings relating to Jamie’s continuing fiduciary duties relating to the termination” of the guardianship.

Meanwhile, “Mr. Spears made millions of dollars from Britney as a bouncer, while paying his attorneys millions more, all from Britney’s work and hard-earned money.”

“The regency has been terminated and Mr. Spears has been shamefully suspended.”

Rosengart concluded forcefully, “Under the circumstances, his petition is not only without legal basis, but repugnant. Britney has given moving testimony about the pain her father has caused her and it only increases her. It is not what a father who loves his daughter does.”

Spears was forced to pay her father’s legal bills throughout her 13-year guardianship in control of virtually every aspect of her life, meaning she was put in a position to pay both sides of her fight to free herself. Variety says Spears’ attorneys charge $1,200 an hour; It has not been determined whether one of Jimmy’s attorneys named in the article, Alex Weingarten, was charged with this number.

“Prompt payment on account of Jimmy’s attorney’s fees is necessary to ensure that the custody is terminated quickly and efficiently to allow Britney to control her life as she and Jimmy desire,” said the 27-page petition obtained by Variety in part.

“It would be against public policy if Jimmy’s years of devotion to protecting his daughter… could subject him to personal bankruptcy and destruction to defend baseless allegations,” the lawsuit read. “No one would ever want to take on the role of trustee if the governor could force someone to pay a large legal fee to defend baseless allegations.”
