Japanese researchers invent lickable screen to display images with flavor

Researchers from Meiji University in Tokyo demonstrated a prototype of a lickable screen to display images with flavor. The screen is equipped with a set of spray cans that spray flavor onto a “healthy film” over the flat screen.

The goal is to enable people to experience something like eating at a restaurant on the other side of the world, even while staying at home, Professor Homi Miyashita told the Guardian.

Yuki Ho, 22, a student at Meiji University, showed TTTV to reporters, saying on screen that she wanted to taste sweet chocolate. After several attempts, a robotic sound repeated the arrangement and jets of flavor sprayed a sample onto a plastic sheet.

“It’s a bit like milk chocolate,” she said. “It’s as sweet as chocolate sauce.”
