In 2021, the films initially returned to theaters. Television production stopped, started, and sometimes stopped again. Delayed movies and TV seasons have finally been seen, and projects that would have only once appeared on the big screens are popping up on the small screens.

With all that in mind, NPR critics have compiled our selections of movies and TV into one big — and grateful — list of things we’ve enjoyed watching this year, whether we’re indoors or out, with others or alone.
