The brutal new Netflix movie everyone’s been waiting for was just released

Sandra Bullock has a knack for picking hard-hitting Netflix projects. Her latest movie, the just-released Netflix original unforgivable, comes two years after her other starring roles in The Broadcaster That Got Everyone Talking.

Back then, it was because of her work in the post-apocalyptic horror title Bird box. This was a different kind of survival story (we’re starting to get a feel for a topic here) than the most recent one on Netflix. One in which she plays a woman who has just been released from prison after serving a sentence for a violent crime. This movie is based on a 2009 British miniseries with a similar name (the Unforgiven). Bullock also served as a producer this time around as well. In an interview with Netflix, the actress explained some of what goes into her motivations for these types of projects. It’s not just about her love of true crime content, but the psychological spirit behind it all. “What would make someone fish?… I always look for a project that has exposure and accessibility, that draws the audience into an experience. I love that aspect of it and the pieces of the puzzle that have to come together to explain that.”

Already on Friday, the day the movie debuted on Netflix, the movie was appearing in the “popular” content row of the in-app streaming device. That may bode well as it finally hits the US Top 10 list. Just having a Bullock can help make that happen, too. Fun fact: Over the course of her career, her films have grossed over $5.3 billion at the global box office.

Bullock says she met many women who went through the prison system in her search for this role. I met three women in prison. One was released immediately, stayed one year inside, and the third not only got out but hoped to get out. You can see on their faces, the fear and shock, and the shields they built to protect themselves.”

The audience surely loves the movie so far. unforgivable As of the time of this writing, it has received an excellent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. This score is 88%, based on over 50 user ratings. As much as the critics? The story is a lot different there, with a score of 42% based on 50 reviews at this point.

Many negative reviews seem to complain that the filmmakers tried to bite off more than they could chew here. It was too much of a leap to squeeze a TV series into the limitations of a feature film. “Despite the profound group led by the transformative Bullock,” A ribbed The reviewer notes that the film “moves at a choppy pace, and lacks the urgency and pathos needed in the narrative of redemption.”
