Thousands of fans are begging Netflix to un-cancel one of its biggest duds of 2021

Netflix released a slew of critically acclaimed, raucous, and unmissable content this year, from TV series such as maid And mysterious For original movies like The hardest they fell And dog power. Meanwhile, for my money, one of the much-anticipated TV series on Netflix this year was far and away from the title that simultaneously had the biggest fan base waiting to be released — and it turned out to be one of the biggest surprises of 2021 for the operator. So much so that Netflix decided not to renew it for a second season less than a month after its release. We are of course referring to Cowboy Bebop. Adapted from Netflix live-action Japanese anime about a group of future bounty hunters.

Cowboy Bebop Canceled petition

The series, according to Netflix, “is an action-packed western space about three bounty hunters, also known as ‘cowboys,’ all trying to transcend the past.

As deadly as they are, Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniela Pineda) make up a devious and ridiculous crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. At the right price. But they can only kick and mock a lot. of quarrels before their past finally catches up with them.”

I am definitely not an expert in animation. But the sense you get from some of the show’s biggest fans is that making acceptable live-action reproductions of this format is so lengthy that it’s nearly impossible most of the time. The feel and beauty of this show are sure to be very special. To the point where you risk not only turning off fans but also making newcomers some annoyance about it. But most importantly, not everyone felt this way. Don’t care enough about them to force Netflix to pull the plug.

“I really loved working on this”

In a tweet that appears to have since been deleted, Cowboy Bebop Co-executive producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach wrote that he “really loved” working on the show.

“He came from a real and pure place of respect and affection. I hope we can achieve what we planned for season two. But you know what they say, guys plan, God laughs.”

Meanwhile, thousands of fans of the show have signed a petition begging Netflix to cancel the show, at Change.org.

As of the time of this writing, the petition had close to 56,000 signatures. It has a target of 75,000. “It wasn’t a straight-forward version of the anime, but the world they put together was amazing and worthy of a second season,” the petition says about the Netflix series.

According to one report, Cowboy Bebop It debuted strongly on Netflix. In the first week after its launch, the program collected about 74 million watch hours from Netflix subscribers. However, the data shows that this number dropped by nearly 60% soon after. The show wasn’t perfect, one of the petition’s signatories wrote in the comments. But it was still “an interesting and entertaining show in terms of its merits,” continued that comment.

“I would like to see the second season so that the show can grow and develop. I love Umbrella Academy on Netflix, but the second season has developed the show into something amazing.”
